Like most clubs that are formed, there is an interesting story behind how the MHFLCC or Michigan Hunting & Fishing License Collectors Club came to be.
Thirteen years ago a gentleman by the name of Ed Dunifon organized a small get together on Saturday February 5, 1994 at the Holiday Inn in Lansing. The purpose of the meeting was to buy, sell or trade vintage items that the State of Michigan, Department of Conservation once issued. A grand total of twenty one people attended that day and the MHFLCC was launched. Eleven of the founding members still belong to the club today and remain active.
As mentioned above, Ed Dunifon is the individual who is credited with organizing the club and this was driven off his passion of researching Michigans past. Ed worked for several years as a Conservation officer throughout the state and spent much of his free time studying, researching & collecting material that the state of Michigan Department of Conservation had issued since it's beginning. It was through this research that he met other conservation officers and individuals who collected similar items. These discussions led to the organizing of the first meeting and the club was formed. Ed also published a book in the early 90's that detailed all of his findings on things like: how many licenses were issued in a given year, number of animals harvested, cost of the license in a given year, etc.
As you can imagine, the research was extensive and the information is invaluable to the collector.
